Why Is my computer not picking up a signal from my Headset Microphone?

its brand new so it cant be broken, i know its not on mute and it was working just a few minutes before but it had a voice changer on it so nobody could understand me. How can i get my mic working normally and for use with Ventrillo.

1. Could be setting on My computer saying what input to use, or a setting in Ventrillo.
2. I've tried that b 4! My mom says it's just not made to work in the computer! You prolly need a better mic!
