USB Stereo Headset

Microphone Headset?

I have two different headsets for my laptop and both don't work when it comes down to the microphone part. The sound will work and I can hear anything but I cant talk to anyone on any program. I have a Windows Vista laptop and i use a aux in/headphone jack to connect the headset. Ive made sure it wasnt muted itself and also in sounds. I dont have the cds btw for them so idk what I can do. actually its 3 plugs in the front one is microphone, idk abt the middle one, and headphone

  1. Same thing happened to me. The microphone probably crapped out. You'll need a better headset.
  2. First, if there are other jacks on the computer, try them. Second, test your computer with another headset that you know works. If you can get the mic to work, you know that the problem is with your headset. If the known good headset does not work, the problem is likely the hardware. You should check to be sure that Vista has the correct drivers for the sound card, and also that the input level for the mic is at about mid-level. There may be an option to select which device you take input from, and you should make sure that the jack you are using is selected. If the problem is with your headset, first check to see if there is a mute or on/off button on the headset itself, or perhaps a volume control. If not, the problem is with your headset and you would be best served to buy a new one. For the best quality sound, look or a mic with a sensitivity of -60db or higher. Edit: The mic jack is typically the red/pink one, so make sure that your mic is plugged into that one. You might also check to make sure that there isn't some kind of mute switch on each of them (mine has one and that is typically my first point to check). The only headphones that I know of that require a set of drivers are USB models, and these don't sound like what you have described. You might also check the sound recording device that is listed. Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices. Click on the Volume control and see if there is more than one mic listed in the Recording Control. If there is, try selecting the other one. You might also make sure that the advanced controls are shown (Options/Advanced Controls) and then use that to give your mic a 1db boost. It makes a big difference!
