How do I take my microphone headset off mute?

I can hear perfectly fine with it I just can't hear my voice when I try recording it. The microphone to my headset has somehow been muted either that or it's broken what do you think?

1. Test the headset on another computer. If it works fine, check your microphone jack settings and make sure that it is set as Mic In and not configured as another speaker.
